Best airports

Tuscany has two international airports, one in Pisa and another in Florence . Pisa Airport (PSA) is also known as the Galileo Galilei International Airport, while the airport in Florence (FLR) is called the Amerigo Vespucci Airport, also known as Peretola.

Pisa airport is the larger of the two airports. Easyjet and Ryanair are two of the major airlines serving Pisa.

Unfortunately there are no direct flights to either airport from Belfast however Dublin has direct flights to Pisa. Alternatively, there are connecting flights via London.

Direct flights from Belfast to Italy are only available to Milan, Turin and Verona. They are a few hours drive away from Pisa and Florence. They are also nice holiday options if you fancy taking a trip to the lakes such as Garda or Como whilst in Italy.

The quickest and more than likely cheaper method of transport is to hire a car from the airport. However taxis are available from the airport.

Additional holiday options

Pisa & Florence & Siena

Fly into Pisa and stay a night or 2 in Florence. A recommendation would be to see the leaning tower of Pisa after arriving at Pisa airport as it is only 10 mins away from the airport and it easily accessible. Then drive or take the train to Florence which both take an hour.

Siena is a further option which is reachable by train. Siena is very picturesque and easy to visit if you only have one day since it is a compact city with a few big sites.

Rome

Rome can be reached by train (1.5-2hrs) from both Pisa and Florence. Attentively you could also drive but does take longer (3.5-4hrs).

Livorno

Livorno is a possible escape from the sight seeing. It is an Italian port city on the west coast of Tuscany, approximately 30mins drive from Pisa. It's known for its seafood, beaches, Renaissance-era fortifications and modern harbour with a cruise ship port.
